For a little while now I have been trying to learn Japanese. Seeing how much I love Japanese horror movies and Raven’s obsession with some anime I thought it would be a good idea to broaden my horizons and learn a new language and what better language to learn then Japanese. Now, I am not new to the Japanese language cause thanks to the Styx’s song Mr. Roboto I have known how to say Domo arigato (which pretty much means thank you very much) for quite some time now. Anywho, so far all I know how to say is “Excuse me. Do You Understand English?” Yes, I know it’s not much but it’s more Japanese then most people know so don’t criticize me. Well, I was watching a great Japanese horror movie awhile back and I always watch them with the subtitles (never, never with English dub) and Raven came in asking 50,000 questions like she likes to do while I’m trying to watch a movie (I swear, she won’t say a word to me unless I am trying to watch a movie and then you can’t get her to shut up) and while I was trying to listen to her I heard one of the actors say “wakarimasu” and I instantly new what that meant. I rewound the movie a little and told Raven to listen. After the actress said “wakarimasu” once again. I squealed with excitement and exclaimed “I know what she said! I know what she said! She said understand!” While I was doing my little happy dance around the living room chanting “I understand Japanese”. Raven stood there with arms crossed and exclaimed “Mommy, It’s only one word.” Leave it to this little 9 year old to bring me down off my high horse. “It’s more Japanese then you know Miss Minny Penny” I stated as I stuck out my tongue. She rolled her eyes and walked back into her room while I got back up on my high horse for winning that round against my 9 year old daughter. Does that make me a bad parent?
